Free tools to check your own website

I built these for the checks I run on every site I look after. Each one answers a single question about your own website, in plain English.

Questions

Questions about the free tools.

Are these tools really free?

Yes. There’s no charge and no account to create. The website grader asks for your email so I can follow up about your result, and it’s the only one that does.

Do you keep what I check?

The website expiry check and the file name generator run in your browser, so nothing you type into them reaches me. The website grader sends the address you test to Google’s PageSpeed test, and I keep that address, the result and your email so I can follow up about it. You’re only added to a mailing list if you tick the box and confirm. The privacy policy has the details.

Which tool should I start with?

The website grader, if you want a quick read on how your site performs. If your site is a few years old, start with the website expiry check.

How do these tools relate to the ThreeSeven Standard?

Every site I run is measured against the ThreeSeven Standard: four pillars covering performance, accessibility, search and AI readability, re-checked every 90 days. These tools each cover one piece of it. The grader checks speed and accessibility on one page, the file name tool covers one small part of how machines read your pages, and the expiry check shows how far a site has drifted since it was built. Read the Standard.

Can you build or look after my website?

Yes, that’s my day job. I build sites to my published Standard and keep them there for one monthly fee. How the service works · No website yet? Start here

Want the full picture?

The websites I build and run are held to the ThreeSeven Standard, a bar I publish: 90 or more on a phone and 95 or more on a desktop in Google's test, zero accessibility errors, every page in Google's index, and content AI tools can read. The free Standards Report measures your site against it.

  • Three pages of your site
  • Several runs of Google's test, with the middle result reported
  • A second accessibility engine, WebAIM WAVE
  • Search and AI readability checked as well as speed and accessibility
  • The top finding in each area, and why it matters, in plain language
